Hormone Therapy for Men
Have you noticed changes in energy, strength, libido, or how you feel overall?
As men age, testosterone levels can change. Some men notice lower energy, less muscle, more abdominal fat, decreased libido, changes in erectile function, or just a sense that they are not feeling like themselves.
At Cobb Wellness & Aesthetics, we look at your symptoms, your medical history, and your lab work to determine whether testosterone or other hormone treatment may be helpful.
The goal is not to put every man on testosterone. The goal is to figure out what may be contributing to how you feel and what makes sense for you.
Symptoms that may be related to low testosterone
Men may notice and feel that something has changed:
Low energy
Decreased motivation
Loss of muscle
Difficulty building muscle
Increased abdominal fat
Low libido
Changes in erectile function
Poor exercise recovery
Mood changes
Brain fog or difficulty concentrating
Poor sleep
A general decrease in vitality
Sometimes testosterone is part of the problem. Sometimes it is not.
That is why we look at the whole picture.
Testosterone affects more than sexual function
Testosterone plays a role in:
Muscle mass
Strength
Bone health
Sexual desire
Erectile function
Energy
Mood
Body composition
Exercise recovery
Overall well-being
But low energy, weight gain, poor libido, and changes in sexual function can also be related to sleep apnea, insulin resistance, thyroid problems, medications, stress, cardiovascular disease, or other health issues.
I do not believe every symptom should automatically be blamed on testosterone.
What do we test?
Testing depends on your symptoms, age, medical history, and whether you are already taking testosterone.
This may include:
Total testosterone
Free testosterone
Estradiol
CBC
Comprehensive metabolic panel
Thyroid testing
Blood sugar and insulin
Lipid profile
PSA when appropriate
Vitamin D
Other testing if needed
The lab work helps us decide whether testosterone therapy is appropriate and gives us a baseline for follow-up.
Treatment options
Treatment is individualized.
Depending on your needs and preferences, testosterone may be given as injections or as a topical cream.
The best option depends on your symptoms, lab results, preferences, and how you respond to treatment.”
Testosterone and sexual wellness
Testosterone can affect libido and sexual function, but erection quality depends on more than hormones.
Blood flow, blood pressure, blood sugar, medications, sleep, stress, weight, and cardiovascular health all matter.
For men with erectile or sexual concerns, hormone evaluation may be one part of the plan, but blood flow, metabolic health, medications, and overall health also need to be considered.
We also offer the P-Shot® and Priapus Toxin™ for men who may benefit from a regenerative approach to sexual wellness.
Testosterone, weight, and muscle
Many men notice that it becomes harder to maintain muscle and easier to gain abdominal fat as they get older.
Testosterone may play a role, but it is not the only factor.
Protein intake, resistance training, sleep, insulin resistance, thyroid function, and stress all matter.
For many men, improving body composition means addressing several things at the same time.
Monitoring is important
Testosterone therapy should be monitored.
We follow symptoms and repeat lab testing when appropriate so the dose can be adjusted if needed.
