PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) treatments are very popular procedures. PRP is derived from your own blood and is rich in many growth factors. These growth factors can rejuvenate the skin resulting in glowing skin, refined pore size and fewer wrinkles. It works very well for rejuvenating the eye area and giving the skin a more youthful appearance.
PRP has been used to support wound healing for over 20 years. It has also been used in combination with fat transfer to improve the results. Most recently in the past 5 years, PRP has been used for aesthetic indications such as the Vampire facelift, the Vampire facial for PRP hair.
PRP injections can be performed as part of the Vampire facelift or as a stand alone procedure. PRP injections are helpful for:
- Rejuvenating the under eye area
- Acne scars
- As a component of the Vampire facial
- PRP can be injected with a tiny needle all over the face, neck and chest for those who would like a more aggressive PRP treatment
Under eye PRP injections are very popular in our office. There is no risk of lumps, bumps or Tyndall effect (blue tinge to the skin). We usually combine this with Microneedling with the Skin Pen or Vivace RF Microneedling.
Our doctor uses a cannula which has a blunt tip to inject PRP under the eyes which is very safe and has less risk of bruising. Typically, there is swelling under the eyes for 2-3 days.
Multiple sessions are typically needed. There may be a need for filler injections if there is a significant volume loss. We find that after PRP injections under the eye, the amount of filler required can be significantly less.
